Houtan Park in Shanghai

image2-2On November 4, 2015, WAFA President Tina Lindgreen visited Houtan Park in Shanghai, a project by Turenscape, the internationally-recognized Chinese environmental design firm and 2015 WAF Award winner. Built on a former riverfront industrial site for the Shanghai 2010 World Expo, the constructed wetland protects the area against floods, provides greenspace in the urban core, and purifies river water. The purification  process  of cleaning water is overdone in an aesthetically pleasing way without any chemical process. Test data show the park can improve 2400 cubic meters per day from Lower Grade V to Grade III without chemical treatment. The amazing project contributes both beautiful urban scenery and sustainable environment development.
