Professor Virginia C. Li (Li Zhen), PhD, MPH

Professor Li is currently Research Professor, UCLA Fielding School of Public Health. She is also Visiting Professor at the Kunming Medical University, and Honorary Professor of Guangdong Medical University.

Professor Li’s service stretches back over 40 years. In China, among other accomplishments, she pioneered research in reproductive and family health that led to the development of model programs. Her research encouraged the State Family Commission to attend to Quality of Care in service delivery. Most recently, she has helped initiate a successful tobacco crop substitution project, and a sanitation project for rural schools in Yunnan Province,  China. In the USA, she has led studies on training physicians to counsel patients to quit smoking; her initiatives have been included in the Objectives for the Nation. Professor Li has also served in senior administrative and consultative roles in China, the USA and other countries. The World Health Organization has used her methodology to re-assess its approach in global reproductive health indicator for developing countries.

At the 2014 Award Event in Central Hall Westminster, Prem Rawat said:

“All our efforts, whether they are sustainability, to feed the hungry, to bring clean water – in our own little way, we want to create a little heaven right here on earth. And who will ever blame us for thinking so wildly? Because it is a wild vision to want to create a little heaven for us and our fellow beings; and to leave a legacy of that heaven for the generations yet to come, so they keep on living the dream of creating the little heaven in their time, for their time ahead.”
